Autumn is a Time for Letting Go by Deanna Rennings - LAc
The time of Autumn is about letting go. Just as deciduous trees let go of the colorful leaves they no longer need at this time, we need to let go of that which no longer is useful to our bodies and spirits. The things to let go of can take the form material items, ideas, recurring unfriendly thoughts or messages about our selves or others, unhealthy lifestyle choices, even the attachment to sadness, illnesses or poor health conditions.
The element for Autumn is metal. The related organs for this season are the Lung and the Large Intestine. The Lung is about bringing in life.
Take a deep in breath while consciously bringing life into your being. Fully accept life: put up no barriers while you deeply bring in all the richness and goodness that life is. Appreciate the blessing that is life. As you exhale, let go of what you do not need: toxins, unhealthy thoughts, resentments, stress, etc. It can be anything you have realized you've accumulated and do not need.
At this time you will see squirrels and other animals gathering the nuts and foods it will need to bring them life to sustain themselves for the coming winter season. They gather what they need together so that when the time of nature's dormancy arrives, they will have what they need. Try not to exceed your means by spending too much money preparing for the holidays. That way you can truly appreciate and enjoy the coming together of friends and relations, not worrying about having enough to get through the winter.
