Dr. Hess brings over 17 years of practice experience to Village Health. Her practice focuses on prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, incorporating elements of Diversified and Thompson Drop, traditional chiropractic adjusting techniques, as well as gentler techniques such as Activator, Sacral-Occipital Technique (SOT), Strain-Counterstrain, and Muscle Energy Technique, to restore muscle tone and balance. Treatment may include a combination of manipulation of the spine and extremities, trigger point and other soft tissue therapies, tailored exercises, and ergonomic consultation, based upon what is appropriate for each person. While she treats all types of people and problems, Dr. Hess especially enjoys treating injured workers and older adults. Her focus is on treating musculoskeletal pain or injury; however people many times find that chiropractic care improves other problems such as digestion, colitis, menstrual cramps, asthma, and migraines.
Dr. Hess received her chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic-West in 1989, a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Washington in 1996, and a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Oregon in 2004. Her dissertation research focused on high intensity exercise to prevent falls in older adults. For the last several years, in addition to maintaining a small practice, she has worked at the University of Oregon promoting ergonomics to prevent musculoskeletal injuries among working populations.
